Armature Insulation for an Exact Fit
Armature insulation typically features four embossed lines for an exact fit in the core.
The armature is the rotating, wound part of many DC and universal motors. Armature insulation electrically separates its winding from the lamination stack. To sit securely in rotating operation, it is fitted to the core geometry via embossed lines, usually four.
We guarantee tightest tolerances and optimal fitting for your application. On request we add special cut-outs so the end plates mount more easily.
Precisely fitting parts save tedious rework and support a fast, smooth winding process. Our goal is to fit the insulation to your lamination stack as closely as possible.
Fitting to your lamination stack
With armatures, fit determines process reliability: too loose and the insulation slips during winding, too tight and it tears during insertion. That is why we fit every armature insulation individually to the core. The embossed lines are set in the tool so the part folds exactly into the slot during insertion. On request we 3D print your core geometry and verify the fit on the model before the production tool is made.

Our in-house tool shop specialises in embossing and stamping tools for armature insulation and is fast: from enquiry to tool takes only a few weeks. Samples and prototypes are available from a quantity of 1. We process flexible sheet insulation of thermal classes B to H, such as DMD laminate, NPN laminate or Nomex aramid paper. Production is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO 14001.
Selection criteria for purchasing and design
For a solid quote we need the armature core geometry or a drawing, the required thermal class, any cut-outs for end plate assembly and the planned quantities. If no drawing exists, our engineers create one after fitting. We also supply the matching field coil insulation for the same motor. Enquiries reach us via the contact form.

What does armature insulation do?
Armature insulation electrically separates the winding of the rotating armature from the lamination stack. It prevents short circuits between winding copper and iron core and must stay in place under centrifugal force and vibration.
Why does armature insulation have embossed lines?
The usually four embossed lines make the insulation fold exactly onto the core geometry during insertion. This gives a precise fit without rework and a smooth winding process.
What are special cut-outs for?
Cut-outs make it easier to mount the end plates on the armature. We add them in the stamping tool at the right position, so no extra step is needed in your production.
