DMD Laminate of Fleece and Polyester Film
DMD is a three-layer laminate of polyester fleece, polyester film and polyester fleece.
The name DMD stands for the structure Dacron, Mylar, Dacron: a polyester film as load-bearing middle layer faced with polyester fleece on both sides. The film provides dielectric strength and mechanical stability, the fleece the absorbent surface for impregnation.
The fleece can be impregnated to reach a higher thermal class, so depending on manufacturer and impregnation DMD is available in classes B and F. Thanks to its smooth surface it is easy to process by machine and pull into rotor or stator.
Depending on the thicknesses of fleece and film, total thicknesses range from 0.15 to 0.45 mm.
The fleece outer layer as a technical advantage
Through its special fleece outer layers, DMD bonds very well with dip and trickle resins. The resin anchors itself in the fleece structure, fills voids and creates the basis for a permanently stable insulation system without air inclusions. That is exactly why DMD is one of the most widely used materials for impregnated motors.
Typical applications
DMD is the standard material for slot liners and phase separators in class B and F motors, plus cut parts and stamped parts of all kinds. Where higher temperatures are required, NPN laminate with Nomex outer layers is the next step.
Delivery formats and processing
We supply DMD as slit rolls from a strip width of 4 mm, as sheets or as finished stamped and formed parts from our own production in Filderstadt. Converting is done on our slitting lines with tight tolerances and optimal winding tension. Request thicknesses, grades and prices via our contact form.
