Slitting

Hauler & Hermann operates 6 state-of-the-art slitting lines for roll-to-roll processing. The machine park is specialised in numerous web materials such as films, papers, laminates and nonwovens of all kinds in thicknesses from 23 to 2,000 µm. Master rolls weighing up to 1,000 kg and 1,600 mm wide are lifted with suitable hoists and processed on the slitting lines. The materials are shear-cut to the required strip width.

In rotating shear cutting, two circular overlapping knife discs touch at the side and shear the passing web. This technique achieves high cutting speeds with a clean cut edge at the same time. The minimum strip width is 4 mm at a tolerance of +/- 0.1 mm. After the cutting unit, the individual strips are guided alternately onto the winding shafts and wound with matching tensile forces. Friction shafts are usually used for the optimal winding hardness of the slit rolls. The processed materials can be wound onto various core diameters. Standard cores are 1", 3" and 6" made of cardboard or plastic.

Sheeting

For producing large formats or cut parts, sheeting is required in addition to slitting. In this process we work roll to sheet. Hauler & Hermann operates various lines here, some of which can even slit and sheet. Tolerances must be clarified in detail depending on dimension and material. After the square cut, the sheets can also be stacked and packed as required.

Materials and typical applications

We convert all common electrical insulation materials and technical webs: polyester films, pressboard, Nomex aramid paper, Kapton polyimide film, laminates such as DMD, NPN and NKN, plus nonwovens and adhesive tapes. Slit rolls go directly into winding processes in motor and transformer manufacturing, sheets serve as cut parts or sheet material for further processing.

Selection criteria for purchasing and design

For a quote we need material and thickness, the desired strip width or sheet size with tolerance, core diameter and the purchase quantity. Framework contracts with call-offs are possible, and raw material is held in our well-stocked warehouse. We also refine material roll to roll for a wide range of industries. Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum strip width and tolerance for slitting?

The minimum strip width is 4 mm at a tolerance of plus/minus 0.1 mm. Rotating shear cutting delivers high speeds with a clean cut edge.

Which material thicknesses can be processed?

On our 6 slitting lines we process web materials from 23 to 2,000 µm, including films, papers, laminates and nonwovens of all kinds.

How large can the master rolls be?

Master rolls up to 1,000 kg and 1,600 mm wide are lifted with suitable hoists and processed on the slitting lines.

Onto which cores are slit rolls wound?

Standard cores are 1, 3 or 6 inch diameter, made of cardboard or plastic. Friction shafts are usually used for optimal winding hardness.

Does Hauler & Hermann also slit customer-supplied material?

Yes. We convert both material from our own warehouse and roll goods you supply, roll to roll or roll to sheet.
