Polyester Film Mylar Type A

Polyester films such as Mylar A are based on polyethylene terephthalate and offer outstanding physical, chemical and electrical properties.

Mylar A from Mylar Specialty Films is the best-known PET film for electrical insulation. It remains extremely tensile and tear resistant even under heat while staying dimensionally stable.

Despite this stability, Mylar can be formed and embossed. Exactly this combination makes the film so valuable for motor manufacturing: it holds its shape in the slot yet can be folded and bent precisely in the tool. Per DIN EN 60085 Mylar A belongs to thermal class B up to 130 C.

Mylar is also resistant to solvents and oils as well as fungi and bacteria, opening up applications far beyond the electrical industry.

Use as motor insulation

With its excellent electrical insulation properties, Mylar A is ideal as motor insulation, produced as slot liners, slot wedges or phase separators. For higher thermal classes the film is laminated with fleece or aramid paper: as DMD laminate for class F or as NPN laminate with Nomex outer layers.

Other applications

Mylar is printable, metallisable and laminatable. It serves as a carrier film for adhesive tapes, is used in the printing industry and, thanks to its resistance to fungi and bacteria, in medical technology. Further fields include furniture surfaces and packaging.

Delivery formats and processing

We supply polyester film as slit rolls from a strip width of 4 mm, as sheets or as finished stamped and formed parts. On our slitting lines we convert films from 23 µm with tight tolerances and optimal winding tension.
