Field Coil Insulation for Universal Motors
Field coil insulation sits in the stator of universal motors and power tools.
Power tool manufacturers use field insulation in the stators of their universal motors. The stator lamination geometry of these motors is complex: the insulation must follow several contours at once and must not shift during winding.
Our goal is to produce parts that fit this geometry as precisely as possible. Accurately embossed bend lines ease assembly without rework and support the winding process. Field insulation is available with or without a cuff.

Why bend lines determine assembly cost
Field insulation without defined bend lines has to be shaped by hand during insertion. That costs cycle time and creates scrap when the insulation tears or slips. Our bend lines are precisely embossed in the tool, so the part folds itself onto the stator geometry during insertion. The result: assembly without rework and a smooth winding process, including on automated lines.
Manufacturing at Hauler & Hermann
The folding and embossing tools are made in our own tool shop using a folding tool system developed in-house, which lets us react extremely quickly to new stator geometries. On request we fit the insulation directly to your lamination stack and create the technical drawing. Depending on thermal class we use flexible sheet insulation such as polyester film, DMD laminate or NPN laminate.
Selection criteria for purchasing and design
Key inputs are the stator lamination geometry, the required thermal class, whether a cuff is needed for creepage distance, and the planned quantity. Universal motors are usually built in high volumes, so we design tools and process for series stability from the start. Samples are available at short notice via our contact form.
