Insulation Material for Rewind and Repair Shops

Rewinding motors and generators takes material that can be used flexibly, and parts that are available even as single pieces.

Applications

What rewind shops typically order from us

Repair work today focuses mainly on rewinding or overhauling larger motors and generators. Rewind shops need material they can use flexibly, because machines differ from job to job. Typical items are standardised slot closures by the metre, for example in one-metre sections, and roll material in standard widths.

The shop cuts the lengths on site with scissors or a guillotine shear. How a rewind works and when it pays off is covered in rewinding an electric motor.

Parts made to sample or drawing

If the insulation should arrive ready-formed, we make slot liners, stamped parts and custom parts to drawing or sample, from a quantity of 1. The tools are made in our own tool shop.

Large motors and generators: form-wound coils and tapes

On large machines with form-wound coils or Roebel bars, repair shops often apply the taping by hand. The material therefore comes as tape, in common widths of 15, 20, 25 and 30 mm, for example mica with PET, polyimide or glass fabric, plus woven polyester and glass fabric tapes.

The machine's insulation concept sets the structure. For closing the slot we supply slot wedges to match the slot geometry. More in our article on the Roebel bar in a large generator.

Overhauling generator rotors

For overhauling air-cooled turbogenerators we make turn insulation with slotted-hole geometry, both as spare parts and for series.

What we need for an enquiry

Tell us the material you want, its thickness and supply form, plus a drawing or sample for finished parts. The new insulation should at least match the thermal class of the original. Write to us via the contact form.

Do you have an application in mind?

Describe your installation situation and we will check feasibility.

Common questions on insulation material for rewind shops

Do you supply slot closures by the metre?

Yes, for example in one-metre sections. The rewind shop cuts the lengths it needs.

Is roll material available in standard widths?

Yes. It is cut to size on site with scissors or a guillotine shear.

Do you make single parts to sample?

Yes. We produce to drawing or sample, from a quantity of 1.

Which thermal class does the new insulation need?

It should at least match the class of the original insulation, which is stated on the motor's rating plate.
