Diamond Dotted Film (DDF) for Instrument Transformers

Diamond Dotted Film applies the Diamond Dotted Paper principle to a film: a diamond-pattern resin coating that bonds the winding layers during curing.

Diamond-pattern resinFilm carrierFor instrument transformers

With Diamond Dotted Paper an insulating paper carries the resin diamonds. Diamond Dotted Film, DDF for short, uses an insulating film as the carrier instead. Some manufacturers call the same material Diamond Printed Film or DPF. During curing the resin bonds adjacent layers and stabilises the winding mechanically, while the film contributes its own electrical properties to the insulation system.

We use DDF mainly in instrument transformers. Which version suits your winding we clarify together based on voltage level, winding design and curing process.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between DDF and DDP?

The carrier. DDP is printed insulating paper, DDF is printed insulating film. The principle of diamond-pattern resin bonding is the same for both.

Is Diamond Printed Film (DPF) something different?

No. Diamond Printed Film or DPF is another name for the same material. In line with Diamond Dotted Paper we call it Diamond Dotted Film, DDF for short.

Where is DDF used?

Mainly in instrument transformers in the transformer and high-voltage sector.
